Stuck Pixel Test

Presents rapidly selectable solid primary and secondary color fields to spot subpixels permanently stuck in an illuminated ON state. Includes an optional, rate-limited Pixel Color Cycling routine.

Technical Scope & Limitations

Pixel cycling provides color stimulation but cannot guarantee hardware transistor repair. ScreenCheck does not claim automatic stuck pixel restoration.

Browser rendering output can be influenced by OS display scaling, GPU driver color settings, and active HDR profiles.

Testing Instructions
  1. Inspect the screen using solid black, red, green, and blue backgrounds.
  2. A stuck subpixel appears as a persistent bright pinpoint of light on a contrasting field.
  3. Optionally test the Pixel Color Cycling mode to attempt unstuck stimulation.
  4. Notice: If you are sensitive to flashing visuals, do not activate color cycling.

The optional Pixel Color Cycling mode rapidly alternates solid primary colors (2–4 Hz) to stimulate stuck subpixels. Do not activate color cycling if you have photosensitive epilepsy or sensitivity to flashing light. Software cycling cannot guarantee physical transistor restoration.

What This Test Checks

  • Subpixels locked in an illuminated ON state (glowing red, green, or blue).
  • Anomalous hot pixels visible on dark backgrounds.
  • Subpixel response under rapid color switching.

How to Perform the Test

  • Clean your monitor screen with a microfiber cloth.
  • Cycle through solid Black, White, Red, Green, and Blue fields.
  • Optionally toggle Pixel Color Cycling to stimulate stuck transistors.
  • Inspect the screen closely for stationary colored dots.

What to Look For

  • A persistent bright red, green, or blue dot on a black background indicates a stuck subpixel.
  • A dead pixel appears black on bright backgrounds, whereas a stuck pixel glows with color on dark backgrounds.

Stuck Pixel vs Dead Pixel

A dead pixel has completely lost electrical power and remains permanently black. A stuck pixel is receiving power but the liquid crystal shutter fails to close, showing a constant primary color.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can pixel color cycling fix my stuck pixel?

Rapid color transitions can occasionally unfreeze liquid crystal molecules in stuck subpixels. However, if the underlying transistor is physically damaged, software stimulation will not repair it.
