Moving Highlight Test

A smooth bright object traverses the edge-to-edge dark screen at controlled velocities. Reuses motion timing infrastructure to ensure steady frame delivery during inspection.

Technical Scope & Limitations

Visual inspection of zone latency. Does not quantify zone switching speed in milliseconds.

Browser rendering output can be influenced by OS display scaling, GPU driver color settings, and active HDR profiles.

Testing Instructions
  1. Follow the moving highlight with your eyes as it travels across the screen.
  2. Watch for backlight zones turning on too late (dark leading edge) or turning off too late (bright trailing tail).
  3. Switch velocities between Slow (400 px/s), Medium (800 px/s), and Fast (1400 px/s).

What This Test Checks

  • Backlight zone turn-on and turn-off latency relative to moving pixels.
  • Trailing glowing tails where backlight zones lag behind the moving highlight.
  • Leading edge dimming where zones turn on too late.

How to Perform the Test

  • Enter fullscreen mode and track the moving highlight horizontally across the display.
  • Observe the trailing edge of the object for residual light bleeding.
  • Notice whether zones illuminate ahead of the object or trail noticeably behind it.

What to Look For

  • Ideally, the zone should turn off immediately as the object leaves, leaving no trailing comet tail.

No. Pixel response time is the speed at which liquid crystals twist. Zone response time is the speed at which the LED backlight controller switches physical LED brightness in dimming zones.
